A bad or poor candle may tunnel leaving excess wax that doesn't get consumed or burns too hot thus creating a large melt pool. Either way you are not getting enough hot throw from the candle so you are wasting money.

What are the symbols on the base label for?
Some of these are legal warnings and some are covering CLP regulations. Neither are very exciting but all candles made for sale or gifts must contain the correct labelling otherwise they are illegal.
